Patrick Oot- Patrick Oot is a noted corporate attorney and co-founder of The Electronic Discovery
Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to resolving litigation challenges by
conducting studies of litigation processes for the benefit of the federal and state judiciary.
Bio
Joe Aakre-Joe Aakre joined Fios in 2002
Joe has over 16 years of legal experience and e-discovery expertise at large law firms and major corporations.
Joe’s background includes work as a paralegal, litigation support manager and legal investigator.
At Fios, Joe worked as an e-discovery project manager for six years on some of the largest matters.
Joe moved to Fios' marketing team as a product manager in 2008 and continues to play an active role bringing leading-edge products and services to the e-discovery market.
Nicole Abbott-
Nicole Abbott, Litigation Solution Specialist for LexisNexis Research, Litigation, and
Business Information Solutions, received her B.S. from Penn State University and her
J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Before joining LexisNexis, Nicole
worked as a Civil and Criminal Prosecutor for the Cook County State’s
Attorney’s Office in Chicago. As part of her job, Nicole conducts presentations to
demonstrate how litigators can streamline the litigation process and become better
practitioners by utilizing the valuable resources available online from LexisNexis
CourtLink and TotalLitigator along with our Litigation Support tools Hosted Litigation,
Lexis Search Advantage, LAW, Concordance and CaseMap.
She has conducted many of such presentations for hundreds of attendees in cities all
across the country, including presentations to many of her clients in the AMLAW 100.
Duke Alden-
Duke is the Director of Global Discovery and co-lead of Global Information Management
for Aon, a global provider of insurance brokerage, reinsurance brokerage, and human
capital consulting. Duke and his team oversee policy development, end-user education,
process design, and program governance for Aon’s Information Management
organization. Duke also assists Aon’s in-house and outside counsel attorneys in
the areas of discovery strategy and process oversight.
Prior to coming to Aon, Duke was a discovery strategy consultant for Huron Consulting
Group. Duke attended law school at Tulane University and is a frequent speaker at
discovery conferences and CLE events.
Michael Beumer -
As Nextpoint’s Director of Marketing + Communications, Michael is curator
of the innovative technology company’s brand heritage, communication
strategy and market message. Michael plays a key role in the strategic
positioning of Nextpoint in the legal-techology space including trend analysis,
R&D roadmap, communication strategies and customer development/feedback.
Prior to joining Nextpoint, Michael was Creative Director at Hubbard One
(A Thomson Reuters Business) for six years and led a design department that
garnered numerous awards and significant recognition in the legal marketing
arena.
Michael has been a speaker at various Legal Marketing Association events as
well as the Open Source Technology Symposium.
Sean Byrne-
Sean Byrne serves as Litigation Solutions Counsel for Project Leader Associates,
the country’s largest provider of IT services to the legal industry. Sean has
been both a litigator and consultant in the e-Discovery space for more than fourteen
years, assisting law firms and corporations to manage the risks associated with the
often massive, far-flung amount of electronically stored information (ESI) maintained
by today’s typical corporate enterprises.
Prior to joining PLA, Sean worked as a litigator and later, as a consultant with the
global litigation services groups of KPMG and FTI Consulting. In addition to his duties
at PLA, Sean sits on the Seventh Circuit Electronic Discovery Committee, where he is
co-chair of its Technology sub-committee and a member of its Education and
Communication/Outreach sub-committees.
The goal of the Committee’s Pilot Program is to reduce time, cost and risk
associated with the e-Discovery obligations that go hand-in-hand with litigation.
The Committee consists of more than 60 experts in the field of electronic discovery,
including judges and lawyers from some of the largest firms and corporations.
Commentators have lauded the Pilot, many other state, federal and international courts
are paying close attention and some have inquired about how to structure similar
efforts.
Alex Buck-
E-Discovery and Technology Counsel for Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP, advises the
firm’s lawyers and clients on all electronic discovery and technology issues. Ms. Buck
has significant expertise in the areas of electronic discovery law and policy, records
management, document retention, legal record holds/preservation, litigation readiness
protocols, e-discovery and records management technologies, and other related areas.
Ms. Buck was previously Senior Counsel and Director of E-Discovery and Records Management
for Abbott Laboratories. Before joining Abbott, Ms. Buck practiced IP and commercial
litigation with Reed Smith Sachnoff & Weaver, where she also headed the Electronic Discovery
Practice Group.
Margo Eckstein-
Margo Eckstein, Litigation Support Manager, Kirkland & Ellis LLP - Leveraging over 20
years of industry experience at both litigation technology vendors and law firms, Ms.
Eckstein provides guidance to Kirkland’s legal teams and diverse clientele on a
broad range of topics including, short and long-term litigation technology solutions,
best practices and all phases of electronic discovery. At the case level, Ms. Eckstein
and her team are heavily involved in vendor selection and management and the day-to-day
technical aspects of the electronic discovery process.
Jim Eidelman-
A veteran trial lawyer and pioneer in legal technology and more than three decades of
hands-on experience providing technology advice to law firms and legal departments,
Jim Eidelman, Principal Consultant at Catalyst, helps clients develop strategies to
overcome their toughest e-discovery challenges.
A former securities litigator, Jim launched a consulting firm in 1980 dedicated to
helping lawyers enhance their practices through technology, and became recognized
nationwide as a speaker and writer on legal technology.
The book he co-edited with John Tredennick, “Winning with Computers”,
became an ABA bestseller, and software he developed for legal-document assembly was said
to have the ability to “think like a lawyer.”
At Catalyst Consulting, Jim works with clients to overcome their most daunting e-discovery
obstacles, applying smart-searching methods and software analytics to help cut down and
prioritize huge document sets, improving document review efficiency by as much as 100
percent.
Jim has developed some revolutionary software, including a privilege-search engine with
the “smarts” to also find nicknames and variations of names, a predictive-ranking
tool to identify and prioritize documents most likely to be responsive, and a
predominant-language detection program to help eliminate unnecessary foreign reviewer
costs.
Jim’s special experience in assisting clients with searches of Japanese, Korean and
Chinese documents was highlighted at a recent International Legal Technology Association
conference, where he spoke on, “Mastering Multi-Language Review.”
Heidi Fessler-
Heidi Fessler, an active practicing attorney in Minnesota, member of the Minnesota Bar
and Women in eDiscovery, specializes in educating those in the legal community on legal
technology and its impact on the practice of law. A member of the legal community since
1987, she brings an extensive background in civil litigation, experience in legal
technology product development and a commitment to professional education to her role as
director of research and education for Merrill Legal Solutions. Prior to joining
Merrill, Fessler was employed by Thomson West, where she was influential in the
development of many of Thomson West’s most successful products, services and
technology tools.
A trial attorney herself with extensive litigation and appellate experience in state and
federal courts on a broad range of complex litigation matters, she has worked
extensively with many trial courts and appellate courts across the nation to give
practicing litigators access to valuable court documents, and consulted with attorneys,
judges and their staff on the use of technology to maximize effectiveness in their
practice or position.
Fessler graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1987 and graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark in 1991.
Daniel T. Graham-
Attorney Daniel T. Graham, a Member in Clark Hill PLC’s Litigation practice group. Graham has
experience in developing e-commerce initiatives, negotiating and drafting custom-design
software development and license agreements, web development, and hosting agreements,
cloud computing, as well as large-scale ERP, CRM, SCM, BI, and ASP implementation
agreements. Graham also has extensive commercial litigation, arbitration, and mediation
experience in the areas of custom software design, non-competition, trade secret, and
software licenses.
He was appointed a Special Attorney General for the State of Colorado to assist its
Department of Education in the resolution of a major software license and
implementation dispute. Graham balances his practice with counseling entrepreneurs on
the formation of their businesses and providing strategic vision to help them achieve
their goals, with a particular emphasis on internet-based business models.
Graham is a founding and active member of the Chicago Bar Association’s
Commercial Litigation Committee and Cyber Law Committee. He has acted as the CLC’s
Vice Chair (2005-2006) and as Chairperson (2006-2007), and is currently subcommittee
chair for the E-discovery Rules. Graham was a drafter of Cook County’s Local
Rule 20, Major Case Court-Directed Mediation. Moreover, Graham recently has been
appointed a member of the Seventh Circuit’s E-discovery Pilot Program (2009),
which drafted the Principles and Standing Order, currently in use in Illinois,
Indiana and Wisconsin District Courts.
Barbara Hanahan-
Barbara Hanahan is a Senior Discovery Consultant with Reveal Data Corporation.
She has a diverse background with over 25 years of experience on a progressive track from
law firm legal assistant and manager to seasoned litigation support professional within law
firms and service providers.
Barb is known as a leader in our industry professional associations, as well as the Sedona
Conference, and for her role as Co-Chair of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model
(EDRM) Review Committee. Barb’s experience in sales and consulting, coupled with her
law firm experience, gives her a unique insight into the concerns and interests of case
teams, in-house litigation support professionals, and service providers alike.
Douglas M. Herman-
Douglas M. Herman, with over ten years of eDiscovery-related experience, leads UHY’s
eDiscovery & Digital Forensics Practice worldwide. Doug has helped hundreds of clients
navigate their way through the sometimes tenuous electronic discovery negotiations with
opposing parties, including numerous state and federal government agencies.
Doug and the UHY practice has managed dozens of multi-million dollar projects involving
massive eDiscovery preservation and collection events (both domestic and international),
selected extraction of key data sets, and interfaced with counsel to manage and navigate
all aspects of such projects.
Due to this experience, Doug and the practice at UHY have the ability to draw valuable
lessons from the hundreds of matters in which they have assisted their clients.
In his career, Doug has served as an expert witness in over a dozen matters, as a
lecturer on panels and a member of committees with judges and attorneys discussing a
wide range of issues in the e-discovery and digital forensics space, and provided several
CLE programs for various law firm/corporate entities throughout his career
Stuart W. Hubbard-
Stuart W. Hubbard has twenty-five years of experience in the legal technology industry.
He has spent much of his career in software development, but he is also well
known as a consultant, writer, and educator. He is the co-founder of Lawyers
Advocate, Inc., a consulting firm and continuing legal education provider based
in Denver, Colorado that advises private law firms, corporate legal departments
and the courts on all aspects of law office automation, management, and
economics. He counts many of the AmLaw 100 among his clients. Stuart
was an undergraduate at the University of Delaware, and he completed an
M.A. degree and all course work toward a Ph.D. in computational linguistics at
the University of Kansas. He has also pursued additional graduate work in
computer science at North Carolina State University, and in business at the
University of Colorado. He served for many years on the Board of the Denver
Paralegal Institute; he is also a member of the Litigation Advisory Board at
Thomson-Reuters, the EED Strategic Advisory Board at Merrill Corporation, and
the Advisory Board of the Legal Electronic Document Institute, in addition to
being active in working groups of The Sedona Conference.
Stuart is a frequent speaker at CLE programs on topics related to law office
automation and he has published three books on the technology industry,
including "Technology and Law Practice." He currently serves as the Firm-Wide
E-Discovery Manager for Schiff Hardin LLP, a national law firm based in Chicago,
Illinois.
Jason Leib-
Jay Leib is kCura Corp., Chief Strategy Officer.
Jay has more than a decade of experience in the Litigation Support Technology field and
leverages his extensive industry knowledge to guide the product management team for the
Relativity Platform. His specialties include electronic discovery workflow, document
management, software development, emerging technologies, and database design. He has worked
in multiple roles on some of the largest electronic discovery projects in the world
Tom Lidbury-
Tom Lidbury is a litigation partner with Mayer Brown, LLP in its Chicago office. He has
extensive trial and appellate litigation experience, including winning a $160 million
jury verdict and successful oral arguments in various appellate courts. Tom is Group
Leader of Mayer Brown’s Electronic Discovery and Records Management Group, is a
leading member of the Seventh Circuit’s Electronic Discovery Committee, and is an
active member of the Sedona Conference.
Rakesh Madhava- CEO Nextpoint
Nextpoint (www.nextpoint.com) is a leader in delivering cloud computing technology and
services to the legal industry. Under Rakesh’s leadership, Nextpoint has been retained
by a number of Fortune 500 companies including ExxonMobil, Verizon, Morgan Stanley, Pfizer
and AllState, and has delivered solutions for hundreds of litigators across the country,
including over 25 of the firms comprising the 2009 AmLaw 100. Rakesh is a frequent speaker

Robert W. Milburn- Director of Discovery Solutions, Océ Business Services,
Robert is an innovative leader with more than a decade of experience managing complex,
technical Electronic Discovery operations and responses. He has extensive experience
with the implementation of new technologies and processes related to litigation and
the litigation support space. Robert has directed Electronic Discovery Project Management and Client Services
Development and is responsible for driving exponential growth in revenue and operations
throughput in top-tier Electronic Discovery and litigation technology companies.
Robert is graduate of Temple University School of Law and is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.
Constance Mockaitis-
Constance Mockaitis is the Manager of eDiscovery in the Legal Operations
Department of Abbott Laboratories. In this role, Connie is responsible for
strategic planning and managing the daily operations of the eDiscovery Group.
Connie facilitates the working relationship between Legal IT and members of the
Legal Division in refining processes related to Abbott’s Legal Hold
Tracking System and Abbott’s In-house Enterprise-wide ESI Collection and
Preprocessing tool.
Connie works in conjunction with Abbott IT and Abbott Records Management to
develop and implement corporate eDiscovery policies and procedures as well as
enterprise-wide training programs on all aspects of eDiscovery. In addition,
she provides advice to in-house attorneys and paralegals on e-discovery
collections and records retention requirements and implements data management
and compliance policies. She is also responsible for managing Abbott Legal
Division’s Preferred Vendor Program for eDiscovery related services and
technologies.
Trevor J. Morgan, Ph.D,- Senior Solutions Architect, IES
With more than fifteen years’ experience in senior level customer-facing technical
positions, Morgan has worked in search and advanced analytics technologies for both
government and enterprise clients. He has managed search-powered implementations in many
governmental facilities, and has diverse experience in selling and deploying network security
and VoIP technologies.
Jacques Nack Ngue, CISA, Founder and President-
Jacques Nack Ngue has almost a decade of experience in complex network infrastructure, database design and software development. He has served as project manager on multi-national cases for both AmLaw 200 law firms and Fortune 500 companies. As the Founder of eClaris, a premier eDiscovery consultancy and service provider, Nack Ngue developed and wrote CaseSafe, document repository software for complex litigation. Jacques is a graduate of the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal and holds several information technology certifications. He is fluent in six languages, including French and German, and is a member of the Information System Audit and Control Association.
Marco S. Nasca, Esq.-
Marco S. Nasca, Esq. is the National Director of Corporate Accounts and Regional Director
of Iris Data Services, an international provider of eDiscovery, forensics, hosting, and
attorney document review services. Mr. Nasca advises law firms and corporations on legal
technology issues regarding electronically stored information, as well as best practices
on handling said data for litigation.
Mr. Nasca holds an appointed position to the Illinois State Bar Association’s Legal
Technology standing committee, is a board member of both the Chicago Association of
Litigation Support Managers and the Chicago chapter of the Association of Litigation
Support Professionals, is a frequent speaker on litigation technology issues, and has
written or contributed to numerous articles on the subject. Mr. Nasca is a graduate of
the DePaul University College of Law.
Lee Neubecker-
Lee Neubecker is President and CEO of Forensicon Inc., a Chicago based computer
forensics consulting firm that specializes in investigations involving white collar
crime, hackers and misappropriation of trade secrets. Neubecker has testified on
numerous litigation matters involving trade secret misappropriation and has had his
testimony regarding misappropriation upheld on appeal. 2005 WL 762954 (Ill. App. 2005).
Neubecker holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Finance Magna Cum Laude from Eastern
Michigan University as well as a Masters in Business Administration Degree from Babson
College. Neubecker previously managed online communities for Lycos.com where he led the
company’s response to discovery requests from regulatory agencies such as the SEC and
law enforcement inquiries.
Aaron Patton-
Aaron Patton is an attorney with a background in litigation and electronic discovery.
He provides clients with technical and management expertise during all phases of the
electronic discovery process. Well-regarded in the industry, Aaron frequently serves as
a technical liaison between attorneys and technologists, providing insight into the many
issues that arise during electronic discovery as well as guidance on the most effective
tools and methodologies for reducing costs and increasing efficiencies.
Prior to joining Precision Discovery, Aaron practiced law and served as the discovery
lead for his previous firms. He also played a central role in the eDiscovery process,
overseeing document review projects and work flow for teams of more than 50 attorneys,
as well as advising clients on a wide array of issues including counter-party production
deficiencies, motions to compel, production formatting issues, FRCP 26(f) conferences and
eDiscovery meet-and-confers, database capabilities and limitations, vendor management,
and review models. Aaron is admitted to the State Bar of New York and the U.S. District
Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and he is a member of The
Sedona Conference Working Group 1.
Elizabeth A. Pratt-
Elizabeth A. Pratt is the Litigation Support Project Coordinator for the Chicago office
of Jones Day. She has more than 18 years of legal support experience; more than 12
with Jones Day. In her current role she is managing many large scale review projects
(both domestic and international) where she is simultaneously incorporating multiple
technologies, engaging various service providers for support, and interfacing with
counsel to manage and navigate all aspects of these projects. Her involvement in these
cases ranges from the litigation hold stage, document collection, service provider
selection, management of contract attorney review teams, through to production and
trial support. It is this vast experience that allows Liz to help her respective teams
at Jones Day, and their clients, avoid the numerous hazards that can have an adverse or
costly impact on a case.
Jason Priebe-
Mr. Priebe is of counsel in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. His practice focuses
on issues involved in electronic discovery preparedness, planning, and execution, as well
as information privacy and data security. His experience includes service as an in-house
attorney for one of the largest Property and Casualty insurers in the U.S., where he
advised on issues involving litigation hold administration, and the development of
electronic data discovery process and policy.
Mr. Priebe has extensive litigation and jury trial experience in a broad range of
substantive areas, including individual and commercial insurance claims, subrogation,
and insurance coverage disputes. He is a member of the Sedona Conference, and a
participant in the Sedona Working Group on International Electronic Information
Management, Discovery and Disclosure.
Andrew Reisman-
Andrew Reisman is President of Elijah Technologies, a Chicago-headquartered legal technology
company specializing in computer forensic investigations, electronic discovery and litigation
support.
Mr. Reisman has led hundreds of forensic investigations and has been qualified
as an expert in computer forensics and electronic discovery in federal and state courts.
He is a Certified Computer Forensic Examiner, EnCase Certified Examiner and Certified Fraud
Examiner, and is a frequent lecturer at universities, bar associations and symposia.
Mr. Reisman served as Director of Ethics for the International Information Systems Forensics
Association and is a past president of its Chicago chapter.
Prior to forming Elijah Technologies Mr. Reisman was a partner practicing in litigation and
technology law at Foley & Lardner. Mr. Reisman earned his J.D. from the University of
Illinois College of Law, where he was class valedictorian and Editor-in-Chief of the
University of Illinois Law Review.
Barry A. Schwartz-BIA Director of Advisory Services
Barry A. Schwartz has over 32 years of legal and business consulting management
experience, including practical expertise with FDA matters and extensive knowledge of
the medical device and industrial industries. As a BIA client-facing advisor, he forms
a critical component to client projects by guiding the projects at a high level,
usually working with senior members of the client’s internal and external teams
to achieve the project goals. As part of the larger BIA Advisory division, he assists
clients in a wide variety of Information Management practice areas including Litigation
& Discovery, Document Retention & Management, Regulatory Compliance, and IT Security.
Barry holds a B.A. in Political Science from George Washington University and a J.D.
from John Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. He has been issued two
patents and is currently a member of the District of Colombia Bar and the Ohio State
Bar Association.
Charisma Starr-
Charisma Starr is a founding member of Reveal Data Corporation and currently serves as Reveal’s
Director of Client Services. She has over a decade of experience managing client, law firm,
and external resources during the discovery process. Her extensive experience spans both
sides of the law firm-vendor relationship, and she has developed special expertise in

Mr. Toomey is an attorney with twenty years of business experience. He has consulted on
e-discovery issues, electronic search strategy, litigation management and attorney review
services to corporations, law firms and government agencies. In managing electronic
discovery and litigation, his experience spans multiple industries involving IP and
patents, telecommunications, copyright and trademark disputes, employment, and general
business litigation. A frequent speaker on topics including e-discovery, early case
assessment, review strategy, and case management and planning, Mr. Toomey holds a
bachelor’s degree from Providence College, an MBA from Suffolk University Sawyer
Business School, and a JD from Suffolk University Law School.
Martin T. Tully-Martin T. Tully is a litigation partner with the Chicago office of
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. He has comprehensive, national experience representing
companies of various sizes in complex commercial litigation concerning a broad array of
industries. As national practice chair of Katten’s Electronic Discovery & Evidence
Practice, Martin also counsels clients on e-discovery preparedness and compliance, and
recently served as the designated “e-discovery liaison” for a healthcare client
in a major antitrust class action lawsuit. Martin is a member of the Sedona Conference
Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production (WG1), the Seventh Circuit
E-Discovery Pilot Program Committee, and co-chairs the Trial Practice/Courtroom Technology
sub-committee of the Technology for the Litigator Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation.
